Human Trafficking - Modern Slavery

Recently I saw a film about Human Trafficking. It seems that we too often turn away our head or disregard our responsibilities when it comes to this topic.

Millions of people, mostly women and children, are being bought and sold into the human trafficking industry. To us they are people who are being abused physically and emotionally, but to the Traffickers they aren't seen as humans but products in their ''business'' which makes millions a year.

Many women and children are tricked into sex slavery. If they want to break free, they are threatened that their relatives (sister, brother, child...) will be killed - and often this happens. They have no chance - too much die after some years in this kind of prostitution (HIV, Hepatitis, Homicide...).

Many are sold by their families because they need food to eat or health insurance. Others are deluded with wrong promises (become a model, get a good job - in most cases in a foreign country...). This happens all over the world - for instance in the Philippines as well as in the new Eastern Europe countries and - of course - in many African countries.

By being in this type of slavery, many children who are supposed to be playing in the park, or going to a birthday party, will never be able to experience the joy, instead they are raped and emotionally destroyed.

Help to stop this kind of torture and abusement of children and women! Please inform yourself about this new kind of slavery and talk about it. It happens in the middle of our so-called free world - probably in our neighborhood.

Play Fair with "Clean Clothes"

Play Fair 2008 is an international campaign taking place in the lead up to the 2008 Olympic Games to push for respect for workers' rights in the global sporting goods industry.

The Beijing Olympics may be THE most profitable Olympics in the Games' history. Meanwhile the workers that actually make the goods that bear the Olympic logo aren't profiting at all. Research into conditions at factories producing Olympic-licensed products turned up many very serious rights violations. Hm... is that fair?

Topics for Bestsellers

Here I collected some thesis and anti thesis about religion and especially the Christian religion.

Organzied Religion... - who needs it?

Lets ask the other way: Disorganized Religion... is what dictators prefer... no concept... easy splitting up into small groups... less or no power... no real counter force...

Why is organized (christian) religion supressed or forbidden in most non-democratic countries? Why was the christian church a target not only in the Nazi regime but also in the communistic area? Poeple fighting for freedom and human rights often rely on their "organized religion".

It is non deniable that organized religion has more power and also many advantages: Having a church, a bible shop and a christian teacher in my local city or country is possible because of organization.. and I prefer to have this feature as a Christian...

Spirituality is used for manipulation and control

It can be - but it can be also a weapon agains manipulation and control. Think twice. Newspapers, hollywood films, politicians, dictators, mobile phone companies... everyone wants to manipulate you... and everybody who wants to make a bestseller telling you the church is number one manipulator.. hmm...

The Dark History of the Church

Also a topic for bestsellers and many hollywood films, but do we know the (full) truth?

About the pope who was the only leader and defender of Europe when the Osmanians came to conquer the European continent. Similar to the modern European Union project the Vatican in the previous centuries tried to assemble the quarreling European Nations (for defense). Hmmm a bad idea? Todays politicians wouldn't think so...

What about the enlightening history of the church? Why not speak about Francesco from Assisi (reforming the church in a begging suit), about Elisabeth who was rich but left all to help the poor and weak. What about Mother Theresa - she was 100% loyal to the catholic church. She made history - much more than any best seller author who only darkens the church without being objective.

What about thousands of priests who give their life to serve the poor in the third world. Why not speak of them...?

The history of the church is bound to the history of mankind. There is darkness but also full light. And I believe there is much more light than we may think. We should dig deeper to see it.

Don't believe the bestseller authors who only want to earn money by auguring the always so dark church. I can't stand it anymore - they tell so much shit in the name of the so-called "undiscovered thruth".

I can discover God on my own - I don't need the church!

You can try to discover God on your own. It can be an adventure. And no one else but you can make experiences with God to step further in your personal believe - no one else can do it for you.

But what happens if you are going the wrong way (sects and so on)? Or you have so much questions and no answers on your own. That's also possible. In general you will have it better with friends on your side, who care of you. With people who already have experience what is good and what is bad regarding following Jesus. It avoids confusion and frustration to consult this people. Sure you can have (and should have) your own thoughts - but being a "stand-alone" is not what Jesus meant when he said "If two or three are together in my name I will be with them".

"I am smart enough - I don't need help!"

Are we always smart enough to find the best way on our own? Hmm... people were NOT smart enough when they voted for Hitler. Now they should be smart enough to find God and all answers on their own...? Without help of people who already believe (and know why) and without knowledge of Jesus?

Jesus said "and lead them to hold on to all what I said...". The Apostles (and subsequent leaders in the church) did what he wants. So people can find God through Jesus and through the people building up his body - the church.

The Bible contains only ancient myths - no reliable truth

There was a time when it was "in" for scientists to classify the bible as a collection of myths. But interestingly there is a turn-around. More and more scientists find out that the bible tells historical facts. For example: the geographic descriptions and reports contained in the gospel of John lead the archaeologists to precise locations for their archaeological excavations - hmm.. why should this be possible if everything is a myth?

How can I trust in a Religion, which advocated slavery and the subjugation of women?

From the Christian point you should not trust religion... you should trust God and his Son... Jesus.

Slavery was spreaded by the romans not by Christians. And as far as I remember slavery was abandoned by christian forces (of anglicans) in the UK.

Looking back in history, women in christian religions had much more rights than in other religions. This is often overseen.
